Walking On Ice - The Documentary

Creating ‘Walking On Ice’ was such an experience.

The highs, the lows, piecing it together, following real people, their powerful stories, totally shifting gears half way through..

We started with one idea a couple years ago which then morphed, changed, adapted and progressed into the story we have today.

I remember reading in a book along the way that said something along the lines of ”when you go into filming a documentary, you plan for the documentary you want to make, but you capture the story you need to tell”.

That was so true for this project because it really it really did a 180 degree turn halfway through filming.

The people we filmed who shared their story were so wonderful to work with. Open, authentic, honest, vulnerable. That’s not easy to do when you have a camera in your face.

This story, their stories, has truly impacted me. Changed me to a degree. Makes me think differently about things. Makes me lean into gratitude and thankfulness.

Each one of the people in this film whether they know it or not, just participated in creating a film that I believe is going to change the lives of a lot of people who find themselves in similar circumstances.

The fact that we had people stand up and ask questions after the premiere whom also shed tears while speaking was incredible to witness and see the connection it was already having.

If time allows, and you have the opportunity to watch this film at the next theater release, I do wish all of you get to see it, not just because it’s something we worked on but maybe.. it will have a similar impact on you as it did on me.

Nick Joyce it was an absolute pleasure editing this with you for so many nights at my home office and Denis Gazhenko, I wouldn’t have wanted to be out in the frigid cold in Minnesota in the dead of winter with anyone else bro. You both are rock stars.

Recovery Beyond thank you for the opportunity to partner on this film and create something that’s going to have impact wherever it’s shown. Your organization is doing incredible things with an incredible heart.

See you at the next showing
